He Tianning

Provisional Counsellor

Tianning is currently pursuing her Master of Counselling degree with an Australian University.

Tianning considers the role of a counsellor as clients’ “fellow traveller”, in Irvin Yalom’s words. Other than the stories clients bring to the room, she also pays attention to what happens in the moment, and invites clients to use that as materials for reflection and change in a safe, supportive manner.

Other than talk therapy, Tianning has also been trained in art-based techniques to support expression and facilitate reflection. She thinks our body and five senses are often overlooked as a rich source of support, and strives to help clients integrate them in their processes.

Tianning has a track record of working with marginalised groups, be it tutoring children and youth from dysfunctional family backgrounds, interning at an addiction recovery center, or her last role in the corporate sector supporting smallholder farmers.

Knowing that the therapist’s clarity about her own blind spots can hinder her ability to facilitate clients’ self-discovery, Tianning keeps a reflective journal daily, goes for bi-weekly personal therapy, and is supervised on a regular basis.

3 fun facts about

He Tianning

1.

My friends said I am like Phoebe (from Friends), but I think I channel Monica’s energy often.

2.

Sometimes I seem to have more fun than my son when we play together.

3.

I’m having a more balanced meal now and it’s partly because the uncle from the mixed vegetable rice stall downstairs always told me off whenever I ordered more than one meat dish (“Eat so much meat for what??”)
