Provisional Clinical Psychologist
Marilyn is currently pursuing her Masters in Clinical Psychology at James Cook University. She offers sessions at a reduced rate of $100/session and is closely supervised by Dr. Joel Yang.
Marilyn began her career as an educational therapist working with children with developmental needs and educational difficulties. She specializes in play therapy and has worked with children as young as 4 years old. She also counsels youths and adults.
Marilyn’s philosophy centers on the belief that everyone is unique, possessing a distinctive approach to navigating life’s challenges. She places great importance on establishing a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients, viewing it as essential for effective collaboration and growth. Marilyn values empathy, understanding, and non-judgmental support in her practice, aiming to create a safe and respectful space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences openly.
She embraces a client-centred approach, tailoring interventions and strategies to meet the specific needs and goals of each person. Marilyn is committed to empowering individuals to harness their strengths, develop resilience, and cultivate meaningful changes that promote psychological well-being and personal fulfilment. Currently she uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy (ST) to guide her practice.
