Mr Adrian Chua

Provisional Counsellor

Adrian is currently pursuing his Master of Counselling at Monash University. He offers sessions at a reduced rate of $80/session, under the close supervision of Dr Joel Yang.

The counselling bug first bit Adrian when he volunteered for his university’s helpline in the UK. He has since spent over 15 years working in various roles within the finance industry, following a brief stint in the civil service. In furthering his studies in counselling, he sees it as coming full circle to something that had brought him much meaning and satisfaction, and hopes to leverage his life experience to work with individuals facing workplace, life stage and adjustment/transition issues.

Adrian takes a person-centred approach to counselling. Using active listening and empathy, he hopes to work with individuals in exploring their core issues and discovering their strengths. This collaborative and yet individually tailored approach is premised on his belief that we are our own best expert, even if sometimes it may feel like we are our own worst enemy. He utilises techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in his practice.

Adrian is fluent in English and has basic understanding of Mandarin. He practises self-care by travelling, connecting with friends and watching movies that require subtitles. He also makes sure to pause and take in the beauty of a sunset from time to time.
